Khairullah Rahim, Myth Makers—Spectrosynthesis III

Khairullah Rahim has been selected to exhibit in Myth Makers—Spectrosynthesis III, a presentation by Tai Kwun Centre for Heritage and Arts and Sunpride Foundation. Spectrosynthesis III is the third iteration of a travelling exhibition with previous expansions in Taipei and Bangkok.

Curated by Inti Guerrero and Chantal Wong, one of the first extensive institutional exhibitions on LGBTQ+ communities in Hong Kong delves into modern and contemporary “queer mythologies”. From highlighting evidence of gender fluidity, queer love and desire in ancient belief systems and traditions of Asia to transgressive experimentation and non-normative limitations of bodily practices of the contemporary scene. Myth Makers invites over 50 artists from Asia to give a plethora of queer perspectives from diverse backgrounds.

The exhibition has three segments: recent works created by contemporary artists, historical works from the 1950s – 1900s and works loaned from the collection of the Sunpride Foundation. The amalgamation of the segments brings forth a multiplicity of conversations, representations, and anti-representations of stories, individuals and communities.

Myth Makers—Spectrosynthesis III will run from 24 December 2022 to 10 April 2023 at JC Contemporary, Hong Kong.
