Isabel & Alfredo Aquilizan at Thailand Biennale; Nge Lay and Pannaphan Yodmanee at Bangkok Art Biennale

Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan are currently exhibiting Here, There, Everywhere: Project Another Country – Krabi, a large-scale installation at the Thailand Biennale.

Here, There, Everywhere is a combination of three floating decks located in one of the distanced spots of Railay Bay, Krabi. Each deck consists of five small wooden Hua Tong boats that are combined into a form resembling a star anise, and on top of each is a platform where audiences are welcome to use the work as both a social and resting space. Here, There, Everywhere is another iteration of the artists’ ongoing Satellite series, a three-year project that sees the Aquilizans working together with local communities and artisans around Asia and Australia.

Meanwhile in Bangkok, Nge Lay and Pannaphan Yodmanee are currently part of the inaugural Bangkok Art Biennale. Nge Lay presents a fabric installation entitled The Check Point, an interactive piece that examines the experiences of Burmese women. Located at the Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, The work is created using the traditional ‘longyi(s)’ or women skirts of main eight ethnic groups in Myanmar through collaboration with local women. Nge Lay intends to represent all the women regardless of their tribes or country.

Pannaphan Yodmanee presents Sediments of Migration, a site-specific installation at Khao Mor, Wat Pho. Pannaphan’s painted free-standing reliefs are placed delicately to blend with sculptures of contorted hermit figures and Chinese statuettes. Inspired by temple murals full of wisdom, she depicts scenes of Sino-Siamese trade, pilgrimage, mixed faiths and multiple ethnicities.
